Apparently, a brazillian company has found a way to unlock the new 3G iPhone, recently released in Australia July 11th. This has been achieved by changing the firmware and using a GSM SIM Card alteration.
Unlocking the 3G iPhone enables users to choose whichever compatible network they like. Instead of paying a fee to either Optus, Vodafone or Telstra, they can unlock the iPhone themselves and move over to another plan.
However, this method of unlocking is NEW, and expensive. The guys over in Brazil are charging $300 AU a unlock, and you probably wouldn't want to send your iPhone off all alone over the pacific in hope it returns one day. However, in a way, it is a good sign. As more hackers attempt this, easier ways will be found. Patience is the key here, if we wait, it shall come!
Please note we do not endorse unlock iPhones yourself. It is a practice which can render your iPhone into a brick. A nice, heavyweight, pretty looking phone that no longer turns on. Something to think about!
Stay tuned. We'll bring you the latest on the iPhone.
