It’s almost becoming a rite of Winter - or Summer if you’re going by Apple’s location. It’s the release of the latest iPhone, which we often expect to be placed around the June months ever since the iPhone was first released. Even if it’s become a half-tradition by now, what’s become an even stronger part of that tradition is the amount of speculation that precedes each release. Apple has raised the bar in the world of smart phones many times over; what do they have up their sleeves this time around?

That’s what everyone is asking themselves these days, and if you’re an Apple fan who can’t get enough about the latest iPhone 5 rumors, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s take a look at the expectations leading up to the iPhone 5 and hopefully see if some of these predictions might come true.

iPhone 5 Features - What Do (Think) We Know?

First, let’s start with the easiest rumors: the ones we actually know a thing or two about and can reasonably expect to come true in mid-2011. What are these rumors? With a little help from Tech Radars - iPhone 5 Rumors write-up, you’ll find that these rumors have some merit to them:

  • The release date: as usual, you can expect a fairly consistent release date from Apple, in June or possibly even early July in 2011. It might seem like it’s far off now, but you’ll be surprised how quickly it will turn into old news. Apple has been releasing each edition of the iPhone at about this time every year and there’s no indication that they’ll stray from this tradition now. (A little sidenote here: okay, maybe this isn’t the concensus. As it turns out, in a reported leak about the iPhone 5, iLounge reports a release date for the iPhone 5 might surprise us all and come in early 2011. It’s best to be skeptical at this one, however, because of the problems the iPhone 4 had last year.)
  • Better money-handling. If you love electronic withdrawals and charges, then the iPhone 5 might be an excellent choice for you. There’s speculation that the iPhone 5 will incorporate the kind of electronic financing technology that you carry around with you in your wallet, currently in the form of credit and debit cards. We can’t verify this rumor, of course, but it seems like a logical next step in the evolution of the iPhone, and certainly a great way to make life more convenience. The temptation to spend, of course, will be another issue entirely.
  • No major hardware changes. Although the iPhone 4 saw a sleeker look, don’t expect the iPhone 5 to necessarily be a world-changer in terms of the actual hardware. Apple is sticking with its regular suppliers in this department and certainly don’t have a great call to change the hardware to make it an easier phone to handle. It’s doing quite well with its current hardware, thank you very much.

Separating Truth From iPhone 5 Fiction - What Can We Speculate On?

Of course, without any inside knowledge, the whole business of talking about iPhone rumors means that we’re being speculative. But there might be a few more fantastic ideas that we can only hypothesize on - meaning we’re speculating without any real evidence.

One such speculation is that the iPhone 5 will actually be a 4G-ready phone, being able to handle the latest speeds as you’ve seen from some of the most advanced smart phones around. It won’t have to have this technology in order to be considered cutting edge, but with more phones moving to 4G, you do have to wonder if Apple will bring out this capability sooner rather than later.

What else can we expect from the iPhone in 2011? Well, you’re going to have to just wait to find out. Until then, reading about the latest iphone 5 rumors is just as good!
