Optus Screws Up iPhone RainCheck - and Bills Customers for Nothing.

OPTUS customers who put down a $100 deposit for the new 3G iPhone have yet to receive the device, and to make matters worse, they have already been billed for it.
No iPhone till September
Customers have been told that the iPhone will not be available until September, and to 'call back then.' Before the iPhone release, it's been reported that Optus Staff were pressuring people to sign up for the iPhone raincheck, agreeing to a contract when the iPhone was available. Problem is, some people have been billed for the iPhone before they have actually recieved it.
Customers Not Happy
This bizarre practice has made a lot of potential Optus customers very unhappy. Some report they have been 'locked in' to a contract and are already paying for their iPhone plan, even though they've yet to receive the device. Unfortunately, those who put down the deposit have unwittingly commited to a contract with Optus. What seemed like a way to guarantee a iPhone on it's day of release has turned into a nightmare for consumers.
