iPhone OS 3.0

With the highly-anticipated release of the iPhone 3G S comes the software necessary to support it.  That means a new operating system, as the lengthily-titled Apple senior vice president of iPhone Software Scott Forstall expounded upon at a recent event.

The new features of the iPhone operating system have left techno-geeks across the world anxious to get their hands on the new gadget.  But what exactly is driving all of this buzz?

Let's take a look at the top ten best features on the new iPhone operating system.

1.  Cut/copy/paste.  It might not sound like the greatest innovation or even update, but this basic skill of computer users everywhere is one of the most convenient ways to cut work time, and my guess is that new iPhone users might use this new feature the most.

2.  Internet "tethering."  You can now use your iPhone like a portable modem for your laptop, allowing you to have a greater range of workspace.  How cool is that?

3.  More GPS/Google Maps integration.  You gotta love having a map of the world in your pocket, but with more TomTom GPS integration, you should be better able to navigate in style.

4.  iTunes revamped:  the new iTunes features are incredible, allowing for the buying and even renting of movies on your iPhone.  Just wait for the day when you can quickly upload iTunes content directly to your high-definition flat screen.

5.  Theft protection.  Was your iPhone stolen?  Send a message to your beloved gadget and wipe off your personal data.  Identity theft is becoming more and more of an issue in this technological age, and this feature could really come in handy.

6.  Enhanced Spotlight search.  It will be easier to find information stored in your iPhone (by the way, you'll get either 16 GB or 32 GB on this generation) through enhanced, more comprehensive search that can be done from your home screen.

7.  HTML capabilities.  Safari will resemble the Safari of your iMac more closely, allowing you to use features like autofill; you'll have less bumps as you browse the internet.

8.  Find the iPhone.  You know those keychains that beep for you, helping you find your lost keys?  The iPhone will now more closely resemble those, helping the chronic iPhone losers get through their day a little more quickly.

9.  More comprehensive search.  Remember the enhanced Spotlight search from #6?  It will reach more areas of your iPhone with the new operating system.

10.  Use iPhone accessories through Dock or Bluetooth.  Not too shabby at all.

The iPhone has definitely struck a chord with consumers, and we aren't the first ones to  love the iPhone.  But even those who are less gadget-inclined among us have to be excited about some of the new features.
